Questions

Everything people ask before they say yes.

Grouped so you can find yours. If it isn’t here, the audit call is the place to ask it — or just email and a person will answer.

01 What it is

What is missed-call text-back?

Missed-call text-back automatically sends a text message to anyone whose call to your business goes unanswered, usually within seconds. The caller replies in writing, and their reply reaches you as a written enquiry rather than an unexplained number in your call log.

Is it an answering service?

No. Nobody and nothing speaks to your caller. It sends a text you wrote in advance and hands you what they send back. There is no operator, no synthetic voice and no script being read on your behalf.

Does it use AI?

The text-back is a rule: an unanswered call triggers a message you wrote. There is no conversation being generated on your behalf and nothing that can say something you did not intend.

What does the customer actually receive?

A text from your business number, a few seconds after their call ended, saying who you are, that you are on a job, and asking what they need. Most people reply straight away, because they are still holding the phone they just rang you on.

What happens to the replies?

They come to you with the job written out: what the work is, where, when they need it, and photos if they sent any. Every enquiry stays on record instead of living in a call log.

02 Your number and your phone

Do I have to change my phone number?

No. It sits on top of the number you already give people — mobile, landline or business line. Nothing switches over, nothing needs to be told to your customers, and if you stop using it your number carries on exactly as before.

I already have a business number.

Then it layers on top of that. Same number on the van, same number on the invoices, same number everyone already has saved.

What if I pick up the call?

Nothing happens. The text only fires on a call nobody answered, including calls answered by someone else on a diversion. An answered call is not a missed call.

Does it work if my phone is off or out of range?

Yes. The text is sent from the network, not from your handset, so it does not depend on your phone having signal, battery, or being switched on. This is the case that matters most for anyone working in roof cavities, basements or out of town.

Does it work with a landline?

Yes. The reply goes to the caller’s mobile, so it works whether they rang a mobile or a fixed line, as long as they called from a mobile — which most people do.

Can I keep my call diversion?

Yes, and it is a sensible setup. The divert gets its chance first and the text only fires if the call went unanswered everywhere.

03 The message

What does the text say?

Whatever you want it to. The wording that works says who you are in the first four words, gives a reason you could not answer, and asks one question the caller can answer with one thumb. We have twelve templates you can copy.

Can I change it later?

Whenever you like. Most people change it once after the first fortnight and then rarely again, other than switching a seasonal version in and out.

Can I run a different message after hours?

Yes. Two messages — one for working hours, one for outside them — covers almost every business. The after-hours one should say when you will get back to them and whether you take emergencies.

Will it text the same person every time they ring?

No. Repeat messaging is limited, so a regular caller who misses you twice in a day does not get texted twice.

Texts feel impersonal.

It is not replacing your call. It holds them for you until you can ring, and the message is written to sound like you — your name, your trade, why you could not pick up.

04 Price and commitment

What does it cost?

$50 a month at any call volume. No setup fee, no per-call charge, no per-message charge and no minimum term. A month where you miss forty calls costs the same as a month where you miss two.

Is there a contract?

No. It is month to month and you can stop whenever you want, without ringing anyone to argue about it. Your number stays exactly as it was.

$50 is another subscription.

One saved job covers the year. If it does not save you one, cancel it. There is no contract and no exit fee, so the worst case is you are out one month.

Does the audit cost anything?

No. There is no card taken and no trial that starts charging. It exists so you can see your own numbers before deciding whether the $50 is worth spending.

05 Setup and running it

How long does setup take?

About two minutes on the phone. We do the configuration; you decide what the message says. Nothing is installed on your phone and no customer needs to be told anything.

I’m too busy to set this up.

We set it up. You do nothing. It takes about two minutes and then you carry on exactly as you were.

Who sees the replies?

Whoever you nominate. In a one-person business that is you; with a team, enquiries can go to more than one person so whoever is closest or free picks it up.

Can I cancel?

Whenever you want, without ringing anyone to argue about it. Your number is yours and it stays exactly as it was.

06 Rules and privacy

Is texting customers allowed in Australia?

Replying to someone who has just rung your business is ordinary business conduct, and the clearest case there is for inferred consent under the Spam Act 2003. Identify yourself clearly, honour any request to stop, and keep it responsive rather than promotional. This is a summary, not legal advice.

Do I need an unsubscribe line?

A direct reply to an enquiry is not a marketing message, so the usual expectation is no. The moment your messages become promotional, an unsubscribe is required and consent rules apply in full.

Do you record my calls?

No. We never record or listen to the content of your phone calls. We do hold the content of text messages, because that is the product.

What do you do with my customers’ numbers?

Nothing beyond running the service. We do not sell your information, and we do not sell or share your customers’ numbers with anyone. The privacy page sets out exactly what is held and for how long.

07 Whether it’s worth it

I call people back anyway.

By then they have booked someone else. This buys you the first thirty seconds, and that is where the job is won. It is not instead of your callback — it holds them until you get there.

I don’t miss that many calls.

Good. The audit is free, so let us find out. It is almost always more than people think, because the ones you miss are the ones you never hear about.

What if it doesn’t help my business?

Then cancel it, and if the audit shows you answer nearly everything we will tell you not to start. We would rather say so before you have paid than after three months of subscription.

My enquiries come through a platform, not the phone.

Then the phone is not where you are leaking, and this will do very little. It covers the calls that come direct, which are the ones with no commission on them, but if there are hardly any it is not worth $50.

Find out what you’re actually missing.

The audit counts the calls that went unanswered and what they were worth, from your own records. It costs nothing and nothing changes on your line.
